CURRENT is an organisation deeply interested in promoting media literacy and critical thinking, especially in youths. Based in Singapore, CURRENT looks into developing skills in the following areas: (1) discerning media value and reliability, (2) passing fair judgments on topics, and (3) engaging well and responsibly.

(adj.) belonging to the present time; happening or being used or done now.

Having had studied social studies as a secondary school student, we're all used to a certain narrative of Singapore. Is that all there is to know about our story?

Focusing on Singapore's road to independence, we build a timeline of Singapore's beginnings through contributions from various sources.

In order to develop media literacy, we're building a system of two parts -- (1) an online platform where recent news articles or content from social media are assessed and discussed, and (2) a media literacy booklet, CLARITY, which includes 30 days of media literacy exercises, aimed at developing skills in assessing and engaging with media.

Integrating it into the social studies syllabus, CURRENT: the card pack, is a classroom facilitation tool that aims to develop skills in engagement and discussion among students, with regards to historical or sociopolitical discussions. The card pack offers different methods of usage, with different components to suit your classroom needs.

“Learning how to think” really means learning how to exercise some control over how and what you think. It means being conscious and aware enough to choose what you pay attention to and to choose how you construct meaning from experience.

CURRENT looks to connect with schools, students and teachers, to collaborate in developing media literacy and critical thinking in youths. CURRENT serves as both a resource tool, and a lesson facilitation tool, helping students and teachers to consolidate information and to engage in a conversation about what we read and learn. As a member of CURRENT, you'll get access to our forum page, where students and teachers can share news and opinions, engage in discussions, and get resources provided by opinion leaders in the areas discussed, tailored exclusively by CURRENT, for you.
